Define the product, capability and version
Ask the supplier for a list of specifications, versions, Releases and implemented capabilities. The scope of a mobile terminal differs from that of a communication server, the network core or an interworking interface used in the deployment.
A matrix can connect each operational requirement to its technical reference and the evidence provided. Record optional capabilities and limitations. Expressions such as compatible with 3GPP need detail before guiding a procurement or integration decision for the organization.
Examine the evidence and its scope
ETSI describes RAN5's work on terminal conformance test specifications and their use by certification programs. This reference does not amount to automatic certification of every solution that uses mobile connectivity as its underlying transport network.
Request reports identifying the product, configuration, version and executed test cases. For MCX services, check the components and interfaces evaluated. A result limited to one capability cannot be extended to every feature offered commercially by the supplier.
Distinguish compliance from operational integration
The ETSI MCX Plugtests report presents interoperability evaluations between implementations and conformance activities within defined scopes. For procurement, participation in an event should not be interpreted as universal approval of all products and possible combinations of components.
We recommend tests using the terminals, servers and networks of the proposed architecture. Include required capabilities, failures and recovery, with documented acceptance criteria. Updates may change the approved scenario and should trigger a review of the relevant evidence.
What to assess for your project
- Identify specifications, versions and capabilities.
- Connect requirements to available evidence.
- Check the scope of test reports.
- Validate the combination used in operations.

How COM3 can help
COM3 can help organize requirements, review supplied documentation and structure communication integration tests. The scope can include an evidence matrix and acceptance criteria, making the verified capabilities clear along with outstanding items that need to be addressed with the responsible suppliers and laboratories before the proposed combination is accepted.
