Separate irrigation management from commands
Deciding when and how much to irrigate considers crop, soil, weather and growth stage. Sensors and supporting tools can contribute, but management criteria should be established with the agronomic team. Automation translates those decisions into commands and operational records.
Associate schedules, serviced area and applied volume. A screen with historical records helps check what was requested, completed or interrupted during each cycle.
Monitor the hydraulic system and pivot
Pressure and flow help assess water delivery; pivot position and status provide operational context. Rain and wind measurements can support decisions when integrated with management criteria. Application uniformity requires field assessment in addition to sensor readings.
The project should consider existing equipment interfaces, communications, power and maintenance access. Remote commands need to respect local conditions and confirm execution results.
Validate irrigation in stages
Start with representative equipment or an area. Check sensors, timing, communication and fault responses before expanding. Record volumes and comparable conditions to analyze operational changes without attributing every difference solely to automation.
Define responsibility for adjustments and alarms. Scheduling should be documented, and the system should indicate unavailable data while preserving operational procedures planned for interruptions. The handover should identify the person who approves scheduling changes and the procedure for checking a cycle that ends unexpectedly.
What to assess for your project
- Define management criteria with the agronomic team.
- Check pressure, flow and uniformity in the field.
- Validate integration and commands in a pilot.

How COM3 can help
COM3 can help design and deploy automation for pivots and irrigation systems, integrating telemetry, sensors and supervision. Assessment starts with existing equipment and management practices to structure communications, historical data and alarms, with the agronomic team participating in operating criteria.
