Define sectors and observation tasks
Axis documentation describes PTZ as pan, tilt and zoom. These functions allow an image to be directed, but the camera observes its selected framing at any given moment. Moving between sectors does not provide simultaneous observation of all of them.
The survey can divide the property into areas with different objectives: watching an entrance, checking a reservoir condition or observing yard activity. For each task, record the necessary detail and identify who will use the image in daily operations.
Match the field of view to the environment
Lens and position selection should consider terrain, vegetation and obstacles. Zooming changes the available framing. A view useful for recognizing a location may not provide the detail required to investigate a particular activity, so these tasks need separate evaluation.
Crop blocks, mobile equipment and trees can change the scene throughout the year. Retain positioning references and plan reviews when the landscape changes. Local tests help assess backlighting, illumination and the quality of video delivered to the operator.
Keep images available for operations
Power, data links and recording belong in the plan. Operators need to know when a camera is disconnected or its image is outdated. A record of time and observed sector helps connect the view with activities taking place on the property.
Define who can move the camera and how normal framing is restored after an inspection. Visual monitoring complements field procedures; an unavailable image or an obscured location does not establish that the area is free from incidents. These limits should remain clear to users.
What to assess for your project
- Map areas and observation objectives.
- Test framing at actual installation positions.
- Check power, networking and recording.
- Define access and camera return behavior.

How COM3 can help
COM3 can help assess a speed dome project for agricultural properties, including sector surveys, connectivity and video monitoring integration. Depending on local conditions, deployment can begin with a pilot to validate images, positions and operating use together with the property team.
