Map what the tower can observe
Record visible horizons, terrain depressions and obscured regions during the survey. Raising the installation point may extend certain views, but areas beneath canopies remain subject to obstruction. A horizon image does not automatically represent observation of the forest floor.
Give plantation blocks identifiers consistent with operating maps. Record growth periods and vegetation changes that may alter the scene. Planning can consider supplementary observation points for areas that remain hidden, rather than treating the elevated position as complete coverage.
Assess stability and installation
Axis describes how vibration on high poles can affect images, particularly when zooming. Assess the tower and mount for the proposed installation. Depending on equipment, stabilization features may help, but they do not replace an appropriate structure and secure mounting.
Plan maintenance access, cables, power and protection of associated equipment. Tests at actual positions help observe video under windy conditions and during PTZ movements. Record focus or positioning anomalies for investigation, so the team can distinguish installation issues from changing scene conditions.
Connect indications with field response
A possible smoke column needs a timestamp, camera position and observed sector. Operators can zoom in and consult other information before classifying the event. Image direction alone does not establish the exact incident location, so the verification procedure should explain how location is assessed.
Assign responsibility for confirmation and communication with field teams. Connection or power-loss notifications indicate unavailable observation. The camera supports fire monitoring without guaranteeing detection beneath vegetation, in every weather condition or during periods when the relevant sector is outside its selected view.
What to assess for your project
- Map views and regions hidden by canopies.
- Assess tower, mount and image stability.
- Test power, links and PTZ movement.
- Define indication verification and communication.

How COM3 can help
COM3 can help assess tower-mounted PTZ cameras for eucalyptus and pine monitoring, including visibility, connectivity and video integration. Depending on the survey, a pilot can support validation of positions, image stability and the verification workflow with the team responsible for the area.
